However, before you go spending up big it's super easy to create your own unique colours using a few basic colours. Start with primary colours of Red, Blue and Yellow, plus a few extras such as White, Black and Magenta. Ever wondered how much you should sell your candles for?

First you need to work out how much they cost to make. I thought I would share my Costing worksheet which I've been using for years, where I've captured the main elements that make up your candle. Of course, you may have a slightly different list, just change the elements and prices accordingly.

How NOT to burn your candle

Ever wondered how long you should burn your candle for? 

How to burn your candle

  • Trim the wick to 6mm before lighting
  • Burn for up to 4 hours. Burning for durations longer than 4 hours will accelerate the burn time (resulting in shorter candle life). As the wick gets longer it produces more soot due to the wick itself burning. 
  • Stop burning the cande when approx 1cm of wax is left in the jar, this will prevent the glass getting too hot
